What to learn about in the 90s?

I would like to learn about, the white water scandal, columbine shootings, republican/Gingrich revolution, OJ trials and Matthew Shepard.

Television of the 80s

This was by far the best decade of television we have watched so far. Finally, I feel as if I am able to relate more to what is going on and finding the material more funny. I enjoyed "The Cosby Show" the most out of all the shows. The Cosby show was very funny because it provided bits of standup from Bill Cosby and I enjoyed this because he has a sense of humor that appeals to me. The Cosby show relates to the decade because it shows a family that is being raised in the 80s and all of the issues. Also the show displays the life of upper class African Americans which was a first on television. The Cosby show addressed fashion statements of the 80s as well as other things, but never was too aggressive. The Cosby show never really brought politics into it and this was something that I preferred. I believe a show like that should not bring in politics because it is much more of a family watching show. Overall, the Cosby Show was something I enjoyed of the television of the 80s because of good sense of humor and the theme of the show.

Movies of the 80s

I really enjoyed the movies we watched for the decade of the 80s. "Ferris Buellers Day Off" has always been one of my favorite movies and I think it is truly reflective of the 80s. The fashion alone in the movie with Ferris's leopard print vest is extremely reflective of the fashion the 80s. I also think some of the movies of the 80s reflected the tension among the United States and the USSR with "War Games", which we watched in class. The 80s were a big time for Stanley Kubrick directing wise as well. "The shining" and "Full Metal Jacket" are two great films by him and they reflect the culture of the 80s in unique ways. Both films show isolation in a way and "Full Metal Jacket" in a way address PTSD among the Vietnam war vets among America. Think the 80s were a solid time for movies because the movies that teens watched helped set a culture of typical teens. The movies of the 80s were a wide array of genres including comedy, drama, action and adventure, horror and thrillers. The 80s were a solid time for movies and I enjoyed the ones we watched in class and I enjoy many others as well. Movies such as "Goodfellas" and "Scarface" continue the mob films from the 70s and they do a particularly good job.

Is 80s Music Reflective of the Decade?

80s music is reflective of the decade with some artists talking about cold war issues. Elton John for example with his song "Nikita" talks about being in love with a Russian. The song starts of with "Hey Nikita it's cold/ in your little corner of the world", and this talks about the isolation that Russia had during the 80s. I also enjoy that Elton John made a small jab at Russia for being so cold and isolated. The song continues,"Oh Nikita you will never know, anything about my home" and this shows that Elton John will never be able to see her because she is trapped inside of her country and she cannot leave. The song "99 Red Balloons" by Nena talks about Cold War and it is not really speaking out and protesting the Cold War, but rather showing how afraid they truly are of getting absolutely destroyed by nuclear war. I believe the music was reflective of the decade, it really showed how afraid some people were of an all out nuclear war.

Music in the 80s post 1

Music in the 80s was different from the music of the 70s in the style of music. The music of the 70s was much more it's own certain style as opposed to the 80s. The 80s had much more pop in it with more if a selling point as opposed to the music of the 70s. Music in the 80s was practically another form of advertisement with all of the artists being used as billboards for specific companies p (Michael Jackson, Madonna). 80s was also a the birth of hip hop and this was pretty interesting because that was the start and to see how it has grown since then. What I enjoyed about the 80s was the birth of hip hop. It was a new stream of music that changed the face of music forever. I also really enjoyed he new style that Michael Jackson put out, the pop that he displayed as well as the cool music videos really made it interesting. Prince was also somebody that I enjoyed to listen to as well, Prince has this certain style of music that just appealed to me. Nirvana was also another band that I really enjoyed because they brought Grunge Rock and created an entire fan base of their own. What I did not enjoy in the 80s was country music. I have never enjoyed country music and the sound then is the same as now. Country music has never evolved and changed over time and it bores me. Country music seems to all be about drinking and love as well and it just is something I cannot listen to.
